Enable SPF to fight spam from your mail server

Two of the recommended ways to fight spam is to enable SPF and DKIM. In this post I recorded “how to enable SPF to fight spam”.

… Sender Policy Framework (SPF) … . An SPF record is a type of Domain Name Service (DNS) record that identifies which mail servers are permitted to send email on behalf of your domain.

There are two ways to enable SPF for your mail server.

A. through cPanel

  1. Goto Mail > Authentication
  2. Enable SPF
  3. Wait for some time for DNS propagation
  4. Check SPF record with DNSChecker

B. through DNS zone editor

  1. Add new TXT record
  2. Fill name with your domain name
    mydomainname.com.

  3. Generate SPF value using this wizard from Microsoft
  4. Fill value with generated value (the following is the example)

    v=spf1 a mx ptr ip4:1.2.3.4 ip4:5.6.7.8 mx:mydomainname.com ~all

  5. Wait for some time for DNS propagation

  6. Check SPF record with DNSChecker
