Mac screen sharing and Remmina on Linux

I have a Mac mini (Yosemite) and a laptop with Xubuntu 14.04. I needed to remote control my macmini from my laptop (in same network).

First, I setup the mac according to the knowledge base.

Second, I configured Remmina (1.2) for remote access.

Remmina is a remote desktop client written in GTK+, aiming to be useful for system administrators and travellers, who need to work with lots of remote computers in front of either large monitors or tiny netbooks.

Unluckily, Remmina could not connect it correctly. It connected, showed a blink of black screen and closed the screen.

After some searching I found the culprit via Ubuntu Apple Remote Desktop help

  1. IMPORTANT: Set Color depth to High color (15 bit) or better, otherwise connection will fail

After setting the color depth accordingly, Remmina worked flawlessly.
